Octoco Consulting — Technology Meets Business

Octoco Consulting is a full-spectrum technology partner offering software engineering, hardware and embedded development, and CTO advisory services. As a sister company within our group, we had a unique opportunity to craft a brand and digital presence that would do justice to their exceptional technical capabilities.

The result is a polished, dark-themed website built on Astro SSR and Sanity CMS that positions Octoco as the credible, approachable technology partner they are.

The Brief

Octoco needed a brand and website that could speak to two very different audiences: startup founders seeking fractional CTO support, and enterprise clients needing embedded hardware engineering. The challenge was creating a single visual language that communicated deep technical expertise without feeling inaccessible.

Their tagline — "Technology Meets Business" — became our north star. Every design decision needed to reinforce this duality: precise enough for engineers, polished enough for boardrooms.

Discovery & Research

We started by mapping Octoco’s service landscape. Three distinct pillars emerged:

  • Software Engineering — backend, frontend, and mobile development using React, React Native, Flutter, and Angular across AWS, Azure, and GCP
  • Hardware & Embedded Development — circuit and PCB design, communication protocols, IoT, signal processing, and mass manufacturing
  • CTO & Investment Advisory — technology strategy, product validation, governance, and technical due diligence

Octoco isn’t a typical dev shop — they operate across the full technology stack, from soldering circuits to advising on investment rounds. The brand needed to reflect this range.

We also studied their portfolio of 12+ projects spanning agritech (Picklogger), healthtech (PAGA, Biocode), fintech (LeaseSurance, Pulse), smart hardware (Henlo espresso machines, Intelligent Safe), and energy (Soluno). This diversity became a key storytelling asset.

Brand Identity

The visual identity centres on a bold, dark palette that conveys technical sophistication. The signature element is a gradient that flows from orange through mauve to purple — a visual metaphor for the spectrum of services Octoco provides, from the warmth of human-centred business strategy to the precision of deep-tech engineering.

Colour System

  • Dark foundations — near-black backgrounds that let content breathe
  • Gradient accent — orange (#f96f00) to mauve (#bb4f64) to purple (#7f30c3)
  • Clean typography — modern sans-serif that reads well at any scale

The identity is minimal by design. Octoco’s work speaks for itself — the brand just needs to frame it with credibility and confidence.

The Website

We built the Octoco website on Astro with server-side rendering, the same performant stack we use for our own site. Content is managed through Sanity CMS, giving the Octoco team full control over projects, blog posts, team profiles, and career listings without touching code.

Showcasing the Work

The projects page highlights 12+ client engagements across software, hardware, AI, and fractional CTO services — from smart espresso machines (Henlo) to agritech sensors (Picklogger) to neonatal care devices (PAGA).

Each project is presented as a rich card with category filtering, allowing visitors to quickly find work relevant to their industry. The dark card aesthetic with rounded corners and generous whitespace gives each project room to breathe while maintaining visual consistency.

The Team

We designed team profiles that put faces to the expertise. From Founder and CEO Heinrich de Lange and Executive Chairman Prof. G-J van Rooyen, to CTO James de Villiers and the engineering leads — each profile communicates both capability and approachability.

The team spans two office locations in Stellenbosch and Cape Town, with leadership across engineering, operations, QA, product, and talent management.

Outcomes

The new brand and website give Octoco a digital presence that matches the calibre of their work. The site effectively communicates their unique position as a company that can design a circuit board on Monday and advise on a Series A on Friday.
